About The Course
September 22nd -25th | 4 Days | 10am – 4pm
A wonderful experience with the two day workshop at the New School of Art in London. A warm and sensitive host, the room full of light and atmosphere, and beautiful people. Martin Yeoman was an inspiring instructor and dedicated enough time to each of us individually. It is very easy to get there from the Canning Town station, the lovely way there is a plus. – March 2017
This four day course develops the artist’s ability to represent the figure in pictorial space. Drawings will be made based on observation from life with attention to proportional accuracy, foreshortening and the use of form and cast shadows. Students are taught a system directly related to perspective, major planes and geometric mass conceptions. An introductory study of the bones and muscles will enhance figurative drawing ability and skills. Students will gain a mastery of realistic painting and develop a classical approach to the figure. Students will address composition, perspective, focal point and value pattern.
Students will then be encouraged, while working from the live model, to draw and paint what they see in terms of what they know. There will be plenty of individual instruction as well as group critiques and lectures. Martin will do numerous demonstrations outlining all stages of the paintings and drawings beginning with placement, anatomical landmarks, shadow shape construction, value relationships, paint quality and warm and cool colour.
The course will take place in the well equipped studio at our London HQ Trinity Buoy Wharf, students will enjoy lots of natural light and views of the Thames.

About The Venue
Trinity Buoy Wharf
‘Great tutors, friendly hosts and fab locations, and everytime I go I meet a bunch of lovely new friends. I cannot recommend The New School of Art enough. Keep up the great work and Thank you.’ – Abigail 2017
Our London HQ at Trinity Buoy Wharf is the School’s permanent home, forming part of the creative quarter of London’s Docklands. The small but perfectly formed first floor studio overlooks the Thames and across to the Millennium Dome, with far reaching views and surrounded by a lively creative community.
With plenty of natural light our well equipped studio is a wonderful place to paint in and with lots of outside space this location works well for plein air painting also.
